Lake George is one of the most spectacular in-shore boating destinations that Freedom Boat Club has to offer. Once you’re out on the water, it’s easy to see why. Stretching 32 miles long with 176 miles of shoreline, this Adirondack gem offers endless opportunities to explore.
Known for its crystal-clear water (with visibility reaching up to 30 feet in the summer), Lake George combines natural beauty, rich history, and ample recreation opportunities. Surrounded by the peaks of the Adirondack Park, the lake draws in visitors like a magnet. It captivates boaters with everything from historic shoreline mansions to quiet coves and ideal anchor spots.
For those whose perfect lake day involves casting a line, Lake George has a great two-story fishery, with warm water smallmouth and largemouth bass in shallower waters, and cold-water Lake Trout and Atlantic Landlocked Salmon in deeper waters. You may also find pickerel, northern pike, and many species in the sunfish family.
Planning your next outing? Here are two unforgettable ways to spend a boat day on Lake George with Freedom Boat Club.
If your perfect day on the water includes swimming, relaxing, and soaking in the scenery, Dunham’s Bay is an ideal starting point.
We recommend booking a comfortable tritoon out of our Dunham's Bay location at Queen Boat Co. because it’s the perfect vessel for ensuring your entire crew can comfortably relax all day long. Then take a quick 15-minute ride to Sandy Bay. This is one of Lake George’s best spots to start your day.
Tie up to a mooring ball and enjoy the clear, shallow water and sandy bottom. Spend the morning floating, swimming, or relaxing with a good book as you take in the surrounding Adirondack views.
When you’re ready for a break, head to Speaker Heck Island for a picnic (reservations required), or cruise over to a favorite dock-and-dine spot like The Tavern at Blue Water Manor.
After lunch, explore the western shoreline and take in historic estates along “Millionaire’s Row,” once frequented by notable figures like Georgia O’Keeffe and Charles Evans Hughes.
If your crew is in the mood for more action, spend some time tubing or fishing before heading back. Once docked back at Queen Boat Co,, unwind on the rooftop deck with a drink or snack and end your day by soaking in the laid-back atmosphere.
For a more adventurous day with iconic sights and breathtaking views, Bolton Landing is the perfect launch point.
Your day is going to start at Freedom Boat Club’s Bolton Landing location at the Water’s Edge Marina. We recommend treating yourself by grabbing a to-go meal from Water’s Edge Café before heading out. Then cruise straight to Log Bay, a popular anchoring and swimming spot with shallow water and a sandy bottom. Pro tip: arrive early to secure a good spot.
Once you’re refreshed, head into The Narrows, where you’ll wind through scenic channels dotted with islands. Keep an eye out for the large flagpole marking your approach to Glen Island, also known as “Ice Cream Island,” where you can stop for a sweet treat at the general store.
Continue north to discover highlights like Anthony’s Nose and Rogers Rock, where the lake feels more remote and the Adirondack scenery truly shines. On your return trip, stop at West Dollar Island for a cliff jumping adventure if your group is up for it.
Back at the marina, keep the day going in Bolton Landing Village. Enjoy a craft beer at Bolton Landing Brewing Company, dig into BBQ at The Gem, or opt for a more elevated dining experience at The Sagamore or Chateau on the Lake.
From sandy swimming spots and island hopping to historic shoreline cruising and mountain views, Lake George delivers a boat day for every mood.
With Freedom Boat Club, it’s all within reach. Just arrive, step aboard, and enjoy the experience. Not a member yet? Explore the benefits of membership and how effortless boating can be.
