With more boaters out for the holiday, safety is key. Freedom Boat Club’s New Member Safety Orientation and unlimited on-water training prepare you for busy waterways, but here are a few reminders:
· Children under the age of 13 are required by law to wear a properly fitted and USGC-approved life jacket
· It’s best to review local navigation rules and no-wake zones when boating in an unfamiliar area
· Always keep an eye on the weather forecast and have a backup plan in case inclement weather interferes
· Designate a sober driver before even leaving the dock to not only ensure the safety of onboard passengers, but everyone else on the water
· Make sure your VHF radio and safety equipment are on board and functioning properly
Make the most of your day by being strategic about what you’re choosing to pack to make sure that you’re fully prepared for a day on the water. We also outlined the required safety items to have onboard, which already come prepared on Freedom Boat Club vessels.
