The Perfect San Diego Boating Itinerary

Whether you're a seasoned boater or new to the club, San Diego offers a stunning variety of on-the-water experiences. From offshore fishing to dockside dining, this 3-day itinerary is perfect for making the most of your membership and soaking up the SoCal coastal lifestyle.

Day 1: San Diego Bay Adventure

Morning: Offshore Fishing at Point Loma

Kick off your trip with a center console boat departing from either our Cabrillo Isle Marina or  Marina Cortez location, then head toward Point Loma for some offshore fishing. The kelp patties in this area are known to attract yellowtail, calico bass, and even dorado during the warmer months. So, pack your gear and bait!

Afternoon: Dockside Dining at Portside Pier

After a morning on the water, cruise into Portside Pier, a premier waterfront dining destination with five unique restaurants. Whether you're craving seafood, Mexican cuisine, or a casual brewpub vibe, there's something for everyone. Dock your boat and enjoy lunch with panoramic views of the bay.

Day 2: Mission Bay Fun

Morning: Water Sports at Ski Island

Reserve a pontoon boat from our Mission Bay location and head to West Ski Island. This spot is perfect for water sports, swimming, and relaxing. Beach the pontoon, unpack a picnic, and enjoy the calm waters. It’s a great place for families or groups looking for a laid-back morning.

Afternoon: Dock and Dine at Barefoot Bar & Grill

Located at Paradise Point Resort, Barefoot Bar & Grill offers a casual yet scenic dining experience right on the water. Dock your boat and enjoy fresh California fare, tropical drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere to wind down your day.

Day 3: Oceanside Excursion

Morning: Whale Watching

Take a boat out of our Oceanside Marina nestled in the picturesque Oceanside Harbor Village for a morning of whale watching. Depending on the season, you might spot gray whales, blue whales, or even a playful pod of dolphins. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!

Afternoon: Marina Dining in Oceanside

After returning your boat, explore the many restaurants near Oceanside Marina. From fresh seafood to cozy cafes, there’s no shortage of great spots to grab a bite and reflect on your adventure. It’s the perfect way to wrap up your 3-day boating getaway.

Boating Rules & Safety in California

Before heading out on the water, it's important to be aware of California’s boating laws to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. As of January 1, 2025, all operators of motorized vessels are required to complete a boating safety course and carry a valid California Boater Card. Children under 13 years old must always wear a life jacket while on a moving vessel, with limited exceptions. Boaters should also conduct a vessel safety check, file a float plan, and avoid alcohol while operating a boat, as boating under the influence (BUI) is a serious offense with legal consequences. For a full list of regulations and safety tips, visit the California Division of Boating and Waterways.
