Exciting news for Tasmanian boaters, families, and adventure-seekers: Freedom Boat Club is officially opening its first Tasmanian location in Hobart. Starting in 2026, members will be able to enjoy some of Australia’s most breathtaking waterways without the need to purchase, store, or maintain a boat. The new location offers easy access to the River Derwent and provides an ideal starting point for exploring Storm Bay, Bruny Island, and Tasmania’s southern coastline.
Tasmania has a vibrant boating community, with more than 67,000 locals holding a boat license. Freedom Boat Club brings a fresh approach to the region by offering boating experiences that remove the financial and logistical challenges of ownership. Members simply book a vessel, arrive at the dock, and head out on the water while the club handles maintenance, storage, insurance, and cleaning.
David Kurczewski, General Manager of Freedom Boat Club Asia-Pacific, shared his excitement for the expansion, noting that Tasmania’s natural beauty and strong boating culture make it an ideal location. He emphasized that the club’s mission is to provide locals and visitors with a simple, safe, and enjoyable way to explore these extraordinary waters throughout the year.
The new Freedom Boat Club Tasmania location will be just minutes from Hobart’s central business district. This convenient position offers immediate access to the River Derwent and excellent proximity to Storm Bay, Bruny Island, and other iconic Tasmanian destinations. Whether members prefer fishing, family cruising, wildlife spotting, or weekend excursions, the Hobart location places them at the heart of unforgettable adventures.
When Freedom Boat Club’s Tasmania location opens, members will have access to a versatile fleet designed to support a wide range of on-water activities. The initial lineup will include Arvor Weekenders, Rayglass Legend 2350 models, and Sea Ray sport boats. These vessels are well-suited for cruising, fishing, and day trips. The fleet will continue to expand as member preferences shape the future selection.
The Tasmania franchise will be owned and operated by Kelvin Markham and Mark Bent, two long-time Hobart residents and lifelong boaters. With deep experience in tourism, marine recreation, and local business, Kelvin and Mark bring extensive knowledge of Tasmania’s waterways. Kelvin shared that he and Mark have spent their lives boating from New Norfolk to Bruny Island and are thrilled to introduce a service that lets people enjoy boating without hassle. Their hands-on experience and commitment to customer service will ensure members feel supported and confident on the water.
Members of Freedom Boat Club Tasmania will enjoy the full benefits that make the club a global leader in shared-access boating. The club offers unlimited access to its local fleet, allowing members to enjoy boating as often as they like. Personalized training is included, giving both new and experienced boaters the confidence to navigate local waters safely. Premium dockside service ensures a seamless experience from start to finish, with staff preparing boats before departure and managing all maintenance afterward. Membership also includes reciprocal access to more than 400 locations around the world, making it easy to enjoy boating while traveling throughout Australia, North America, and Europe.
