In the native language of the Leni-Lenape Indians, Wallenpaupack means “the stream of swift and slow water”. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania, Lake Wallenpaupack was created in 1926 by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company for the generation of hydroelectric power. At 13 miles in length, with 52 miles of shoreline and 2 miles at its widest point, Wallenpaupack is one of the largest recreational lakes in the state. It’s the perfect size for both the water sports enthusiast and the avid angler.
Spend the day on the lake tubing, skiing, wakeboarding and wakesurfing. If fishing is your thing, drop a line into one of the many secluded coves. The lake is home to an abundance of fish, including bass, bluegill, walleye, muskellunge, northern pike, pickerel, trout, catfish and yellow perch. Take a picnic lunch while you explore one of the 4 islands or visit one of the “dock and dine” restaurants and taste the local fare.
The area offers a variety of accommodations from boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts to cozy cabins and family campgrounds. The nearby town of Hawley is known for its quaint shops, welcoming atmosphere and small town appeal. There are restaurants to suit every taste and budget and activities to please all members of your family.
Located at beautiful Silver Birches Resort in Hawley, PA, we are within easy driving distance from Connecticut, New York City and Philadelphia. Lake Wallenpaupack is the perfect spot to drop anchor, relax and reconnect with nature.
